The second T20I of the five-match series between India and South Africa will be held tonight — Thursday, 11 December 2025, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh), with a scheduled start at 7:00 PM IST (toss around 6:30 PM).

India head into this match buoyed by a dominant performance in the 1st T20I at Cuttack, where they handed South Africa a crushing 101-run defeat. After being pushed into early trouble, India recovered wonderfully thanks to a powerful knock from Hardik Pandya — an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls — lifting the total to 175/6. In response, their bowlers bundled out South Africa for just 74, marking the Proteas’ lowest ever T20I total.

The bowling unit was ruthless — striking early and often. The seamers and spinners combined effectively to ensure South Africa never settled, turning a tricky away match into a statement win for India.

At Mullanpur, the conditions and pitch will be under scrutiny, as this will be the first men’s T20I hosted at this stadium. Reports suggest the surface has produced unpredictable results in recent domestic games — sometimes yielding high-scoring games over 200, and at other times favouring bowlers with slower, tacky conditions.

India likely go into the match with a similar playing XI as in Cuttack, combining experience with form: a batting line-up that can accelerate and versatile bowlers who have already shown wicket-taking ability. South Africa, meanwhile, will be under pressure to regroup quickly — their batting especially needs to find form against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Given India’s momentum, the home crowd, and the favourable bowling conditions that seemed to aid them in the first game, they appear to be favorites going into Game 2. However, T20 cricket is notoriously unpredictable — a single blistering innings or a couple of quick wickets can change the narrative entirely. Expect South Africa to fight hard, and if their top-order offers some resistance, the match could become competitive.

The 2nd T20I isn’t just a chance for South Africa to get back into the series — it’s also a litmus test for their ability to handle pressure and bounce back. Meanwhile for India, a second straight win would establish dominance and put them firmly in control of the series early.
